Emily Sexton
Principal & Managing Director
Emily Sexton is a cultural anthropologist and PBC specialist who has worked with PBCs and traditional owner corporations across Australia. Emily holds an MBA, first-class honours in Anthropology and Sociology, and a BA in Indigenous Australian Cultural Studies. Her dedication to empowering strong, independent communities has also earned her an award for Excellence in Native Title.
Emily specialises in building the capacity of PBCs, focusing on developing financially sustainable operations while working holistically with the community. Her expertise includes business and strategic planning, stakeholder management, and governance. With years of experience in PBC operations, she has secured and managed millions in funding, along with contract management, safety systems, policy development, and project management. Emily’s experience ranges from ordering cleaning supplies to joint venture negotiations.
As a member of the Australian Institute of Corporate Directors, Emily also speaks at academic conferences, maintaining her connection to academia. She has also established two national workplace safety groups to educate and support others working in native title.
Outside of work, Emily is a (very) patient Fremantle Dockers supporter who loves her footy. You’ll also often find her on an icy footy field in Melbourne supporting women and girls’ pathways in AFL, and she is the secretary of her local club.
The story
behind PBC
Link
Drawing on her experience in the native title sector, Emily saw firsthand the detrimental effect of the lack of corporate capacity on PBCs. PBCs faced difficulties reaching their goals because of inadequate funding and limited their access to high-quality, independent advisors and affordable services. They often found it challenging to operate independently from their representative service providers, hindering their ability to fulfil the needs of their communities.
Emily identified a real need for well qualified staff experienced in working with PBCs to provide that much-needed support. Frustrated by this need, she created PBC Link, a trusted, reliable and independent hub that gathers all the experts a PBC needs in one place and connects them in a cost-effective and efficient way.
